Massage & Manual Therapies

Manual therapies focus on hands-on techniques that help improve your pet’s mobility and comfort. Massage is used to release muscle tension, increase blood flow, and improve flexibility, which can reduce pain and promote relaxation. Other manual therapy techniques, such as joint mobilisations and stretches, are designed to restore joint function, alleviate stiffness, and correct musculoskeletal imbalances, ensuring your pet moves more freely and comfortably.

Electrotherapy

Electrotherapy utilises controlled electrical stimulation to help manage pain, promote tissue healing, and strengthen muscles. This non-invasive treatment can be highly effective in reducing inflammation, improving circulation, and accelerating recovery, particularly after injury or surgery. Electrotherapy is often used as part of a comprehensive rehabilitation plan to improve your pet’s functional mobility and overall well-being.

MyVetPhysio offers Laser Therapy (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation), a form of light energy designed to promote pain relief and accelerate the healing of soft tissues, including skin, ligaments, tendons, and muscles.

Remedial Exercises & Home Adaptations

Remedial exercises are custom-designed to strengthen your pet’s muscles, increase joint mobility, and support their recovery. These exercises are carefully selected based on your pet’s specific condition, helping to improve strength, balance, and flexibility. Home exercises are an important part of your pet’s rehabilitation and are tailored to reinforce treatment and encourage recovery in a familiar environment. Along with exercises, home adaptations may be recommended to make your pet’s living space more supportive, such as ramps or bedding adjustments, to enhance their mobility and comfort.

Initial Consultation

An initial consultation involves assessing your animal’s medical history, posture, movement, and overall condition to identify any issues affecting their mobility or comfort. This includes a hands-on physical examination to check for muscle tension, joint stiffness, or pain. Based on the findings, a personalised treatment plan is created, and initial therapy may be provided. You’ll also receive advice on home care and exercises to support your animal’s recovery, with follow-up sessions scheduled as needed.

Follow-up Session

A follow-up session focuses on assessing your animal’s progress and adjusting the treatment plan as needed. It includes a reassessment of their movement, muscle condition, and any changes since the last session. Hands-on therapy, such as massage, stretching, or other physiotherapy techniques, is provided to support recovery. You’ll also receive updated home exercise recommendations to continue their improvement between sessions.

FAQ’S

Do I Need A Referral From My Vet?

Yes, under the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, a vet referral is required before physiotherapy treatment can begin. This ensures your animal receives the best and safest care.

What Should I Bring To My Appointment?

Please bring your vet referral form, any relevant medical history, and details about your animal’s current exercise routine or concerns.

How Long Does A Session Last?

Initial consultations typically last around 60 minutes, while follow-up sessions are usually 45–60 minutes depending on the treatment required.

How Should I Prepare My Pet For Treatment?

Ensure your animal is clean and dry before the session. Dogs should be walked beforehand so they are comfortable but not exhausted. Horses should be in a suitable area for assessment, such as a flat surface or arena. Avoid feeding your animal immediately before the appointment, and have any necessary equipment (e.g., leads, rugs, or medical records) ready.

Does insurance cover veterinary physiotherapy?

Many pet insurance policies cover veterinary physiotherapy, especially if it has been recommended by a vet. Coverage varies between providers, so we recommend checking your policy or contacting your insurer to confirm what is included.

How many sessions will my animal need?

This depends on the condition being treated. Some animals benefit from a few sessions, while others with chronic conditions may require ongoing care. A personalised treatment plan will be discussed during the initial consultation.
